The short answer
Wolf Appliance Services repairs Sub-Zero, Viking, and Thermador refrigerators in Cupertino homes, along with the Wolf cooking appliances that often share the kitchen. We diagnose cooling, ice maker, door seal, and control problems on site and explain the repair before any work begins.
When a built-in refrigerator stops holding temperature, a whole kitchen's worth of food is at risk. Wolf Appliance Services repairs high-end refrigeration in Cupertino homes, working out of our base in San Jose, about 9 miles east. Many local kitchens pair a Wolf range or cooktop with a Sub-Zero refrigerator, and we also service Viking and Thermador refrigeration. This page covers the refrigerator problems we see most, how built-in units differ from standard ones, and what to expect when we come out to a home in the 95014 ZIP code.
Refrigerator problems we see in Cupertino kitchens
Most calls start with something small: the fresh food section runs a few degrees warm, the ice maker slows down, or the refrigerator makes a sound it didn't make last month. Built-in refrigerators are designed for a long service life, so a symptom like this usually points to one failing part, not a unit that has reached its end.
These are the issues we diagnose and repair most often:
- Fresh food or freezer section not holding temperature
- Frost or ice buildup on the evaporator or back panel
- Ice maker producing little or no ice, or leaking
- Water dispenser not working or dripping
- Condenser fans or compressor running constantly or cycling loudly
- Torn, flattened, or loose door gaskets letting cold air escape
- Control panel errors, display faults, or unresponsive buttons
- Water pooling under the unit or inside the crisper drawers

Built-in and column refrigerators need a different approach
A Sub-Zero built-in, a Thermador column, or a Viking integrated unit is not serviced the same way as a freestanding refrigerator. Many of these units sit flush with the cabinetry and carry custom panels, and some have the condenser at the top, not the bottom. Getting to the sealed system, the fans, or the control board takes care so panels, trim, and flooring aren't damaged.
Many premium models also use dual refrigeration, with separate cooling systems for the fresh food and freezer sections. When one side warms up while the other holds steady, that pattern tells us a lot about where to look. We test the system to find the actual cause rather than swapping parts until the symptom goes away.
Why summer is hard on refrigerators here
The Santa Clara Valley has a Mediterranean climate with dry summers and mild, damp winters, and areas farther from the Bay run noticeably warmer in summer. On hot afternoons a refrigerator's condenser has to reject more heat, and a top-mounted condenser coated in dust or kitchen grease has a harder time doing it. Compressors run longer, and weak fans or a marginal refrigerant charge tend to show up then.
If your refrigerator keeps up through spring but struggles once the weather heats up, mention that when you contact us. It helps narrow the diagnosis. Cleaning the condenser on schedule is one of the simplest ways to reduce summer strain.

How a refrigerator repair visit works
We start by asking about the model, the symptoms, and when they began, so the technician arrives with a plan. On site, we check temperatures in each compartment, inspect the condenser and fans, read any error codes, and test the relevant components. Before any repair, we explain what we found and what we recommend, and you decide how to proceed.
If a part has to be ordered, we tell you so you can plan around it. We also share practical steps to protect your food in the meantime, such as keeping doors closed and moving essentials to a backup cooler.
