The short answer
Most wall oven problems, such as no heat, uneven baking, error codes or a stuck door lock, trace back to a repairable part like an element, temperature sensor, convection fan, lock assembly or control board. On a built-in Wolf, Viking or Thermador oven, repair is usually worth it when the oven cavity, door and electronics are otherwise in good shape.
A wall oven that won't heat, bakes unevenly, or stays locked after a self-clean cycle can throw off a whole week of meals. Wolf Appliance Services repairs built-in and professional-style wall ovens for homeowners in San Jose and nearby cities. Most of our wall oven work is on Wolf, Viking and Thermador single, double and combination units, and we also service Sub-Zero refrigeration, often in the same kitchen. We are an independent repair company, not affiliated with any manufacturer. Our approach is simple: find the actual fault, explain it in plain terms, and fix it without guessing at parts.
Issues we fix
These are the symptoms homeowners call us about most. If you notice one of them, it helps to write down any error code and when the problem started before we arrive.
- Oven won't heat at all, or heats very slowly
- Uneven baking, with one side or rack browning faster than the other
- Temperature runs noticeably hot or cold compared to the setting
- Broil element not glowing, or bake works but broil doesn't
- Convection fan not spinning, grinding, or making a loud hum
- Error codes or fault messages on the display
- Touch controls or display dead, flickering, or unresponsive
- Door lock stuck after self-clean, or self-clean won't start
- Door not closing fully, or heat escaping around a worn gasket
- Oven light or cooling fan not working
- Breaker tripping when the oven turns on

What our technician checks on a built-in wall oven
A wall oven sits inside cabinetry, so the first job is confirming the problem without pulling the unit out unless it's necessary. We run the oven through bake, broil and convection modes and watch how it heats. We read any stored fault codes and compare the actual cavity temperature against the setting.
From there we test the parts most likely to cause the symptom: bake, broil and convection elements, the temperature sensor, the convection and cooling fans, the door lock motor and switches, hinges and gasket, and the relays and wiring on the control board. We also check the power supply at the oven, because a loose connection or a weak circuit can look like a failed component. If the oven has to come out of the cabinet to reach a part, we tell you before we do it and take care to protect the trim and surrounding finishes.
How Wolf, Viking and Thermador wall ovens differ
Wolf wall ovens rely heavily on electronic controls and sensors, especially in the touchscreen models. When a Wolf oven misbehaves, the cause is often a temperature sensor, a control or relay board, or a convection fan motor, and diagnosis usually starts with the fault codes the oven reports.
Viking wall ovens are built with a heavier, professional-style look, and the faults we see tend to be mechanical or heat-related: elements that burn out, convection fan motors, door hinges carrying a heavy door, and lock assemblies that stick after high-heat cleaning cycles.
Thermador wall ovens, including combination and steam-equipped models, add more systems to check. Beyond elements and sensors, we look at door locks, cooling fans and, on steam models, the water reservoir and related parts.
Sub-Zero doesn't make wall ovens; it makes refrigeration. Many of the kitchens we visit pair a Sub-Zero refrigerator with a Wolf wall oven, so we can look at both on the same visit if you need it.

Repair or replace a high-end wall oven?
On a premium built-in oven, repair is often the practical choice. A replacement has to fit the existing cabinet cutout exactly, and a different size or brand can mean cabinet work on top of the new oven. Most failures involve a single part, and fixing it keeps your kitchen as it was designed.
Replacement starts to make sense when the oven cavity is rusted through or cracked, when several major parts are failing at once, or when a needed part is no longer available. If we think repair isn't a good use of your money, we'll say so and explain why, so you can decide with the full picture.
What affects the cost of a wall oven repair
Every repair is priced on the specific job, so we don't quote figures before seeing the oven. A few factors drive the cost. The fault itself matters most: replacing a bake element is a different job from tracing an intermittent control problem. Parts vary widely, and electronic boards and touch controls generally cost more than elements or gaskets.
Access is the other big factor. Some parts can be reached from the front or with the door off, while others require sliding the oven out of custom cabinetry, which takes more time and care. Double ovens and combination units have more components to work around. We explain the diagnosis and the repair plan before starting work, so there are no surprises.
How a service visit works
When you contact us, we'll ask for the brand, model number if you can find it, and a description of the symptoms and any error codes. That helps the technician come prepared. At the visit, we diagnose the problem, walk you through what we found, and explain your options.
If the needed part is on hand, we can often finish the repair the same visit. If it has to be ordered, we schedule a return trip once it arrives. Before leaving, we test the oven across its modes so you can see it heating properly.
