The short answer

Wolf Appliance Services repairs Wolf, Viking, and Thermador ranges in Santa Clara, including ignition, burner, oven temperature, and control problems. We find the faulty part before recommending a repair, and we tell you plainly when a repair isn't worth it.

When a burner won't light, the oven runs cold, or the display throws an error code, the whole kitchen slows down. Wolf Appliance Services repairs high-end gas, dual-fuel, and induction ranges in Santa Clara homes, about 6 miles northwest of our San Jose base. We work mostly on Wolf ranges and also service Viking and Thermador models. Many of the kitchens we visit also have Sub-Zero refrigeration, which we repair as well. This page covers range problems specifically: what usually goes wrong, how we diagnose it, and how to decide whether a repair makes sense.

Range problems we see most often

Professional-style ranges are built heavily, but they rely on small parts that wear out: igniters, spark modules, thermostats, sensors, and control boards. Most range calls trace back to one of these, not to the range body itself.

Before you call, check the simple things. Make sure the range is plugged in and the breaker hasn't tripped. Confirm the gas supply valve is open, and see whether burner caps are seated correctly after cleaning. A misaligned cap is a common reason a burner clicks but won't light.

  • Burners that click constantly, won't spark, or light unevenly
  • Oven that won't reach temperature or overshoots the set point
  • Bake or broil elements that stay dark on dual-fuel models
  • Convection fan that's noisy or not spinning
  • Error codes, blank displays, or unresponsive touch controls
  • Induction zones that don't detect cookware or shut off mid-cook
  • Oven door that won't seal or a self-clean lock that stays engaged

How a range repair visit works

We start by asking what you've noticed: when the problem started, whether it happens every time, and any codes on the display. That history often points us to the right system before we open anything.

Then we test the components involved. On a gas oven that heats slowly, that usually means checking the igniter's current draw and the gas valve. On a dual-fuel or electric oven, we check elements, the temperature sensor, and the control. We explain what we found, what part has failed, and what the repair involves before any work begins.

If the part is on the truck, we can often finish the same visit. Brand-specific parts for premium ranges sometimes need to be ordered. When that happens, we tell you so you can plan around it.

Wolf, Viking, and Thermador ranges

Wolf ranges are our main focus. Their dual-stacked sealed burners, infrared griddles and charbroilers, and dual-fuel convection ovens each have their own failure points, and we know where to look. Viking ranges share many of the same gas components but use different ignition and control layouts. Thermador ranges, including models with star-shaped burners and the low-simmer cycling feature, have their own quirks we're familiar with.

We're an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Wolf, Sub-Zero, Viking, or Thermador. We work on these brands because they're what many Santa Clara kitchens have.

Repair or replace?

A well-built range is usually worth repairing when the problem is a part like an igniter, sensor, or element. Replacement is worth considering when the oven cavity or burner box is badly corroded, when several major components are failing at once, or when a needed part is no longer available. We'll give you our honest read either way.

Some homeowners ask whether Bay Area air quality rules mean they need to give up a gas range. The Bay Area Air District appliance rules that get the most attention apply to furnaces and water heaters, not cooking ranges. They also don't require replacing working equipment. Repairing your gas range is not affected by those rules.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Diagnosis comes first

We test and inspect before naming a fix, so the recommendation is based on what we actually found rather than a guess from the symptom alone.

  2. Clear explanations

We tell you what failed, why it likely failed, and what your options are, including when a repair may not make sense for an older unit.

  3. Care in your home

Built-in appliances sit inside finished cabinetry and stone. We protect floors and surfaces, work carefully around trim panels, and leave the area clean.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (806) 280-6638 and we’ll talk it through.

Why does my gas burner keep clicking after it lights?

Usually moisture or food residue around the igniter, a misaligned burner cap, or a failing spark module. Let the burner dry fully after cleaning and reseat the cap. If the clicking continues, the module or igniter switch likely needs attention.

My oven takes much longer to preheat than it used to. What's wrong?

On gas ovens, a weakening igniter is the most common cause because it can't open the gas valve reliably. On electric or dual-fuel ovens, a failing bake element or temperature sensor is more likely. We test these parts to confirm the cause before replacing anything.

Do you repair induction ranges?

Yes. We diagnose induction zones that won't detect cookware, error codes, and control problems on the premium brands we service.

Are you an authorized Wolf service provider?

No. Wolf Appliance Services is an independent company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wolf, Sub-Zero, Viking, or Thermador. We specialize in repairing these brands.

Do I need to replace my gas range because of Bay Area air rules?

No. The Air District rules homeowners hear about apply to furnaces and water heaters, and they don't require replacing working equipment. Gas range repair isn't affected.

Which areas around Santa Clara do you cover?

All of Santa Clara (95050, 95051, 95053, 95054), plus Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Campbell, Milpitas, Mountain View, and San Jose.
